Developing a Joomla Component From Scratch

This will be an introduction to creating a Joomla component from scratch - starting from setting up a basic development environment going all the way through to demonstrating some frontend and backend functionality. We will develop a very basic recipe management component which will allow users to search for recipes based on ingredients or title.

We will show how using the Joomla MVC and core Joomla Framework classes/methods make the development more straightforward. Since this is a lot to achieve in the allotted time the presentation will use a little of the TV chef's favourite trick "Here's one I prepared earlier" to save having to type all the code realtime! Don't expect a production ready application at the end of the presentation but hopefully you'll be well on the way.

I hope that the code described during the presentation will be available for download during the presentation so that you can follow along realtime. If you wish to do this then you will need a test Joomla website play with on your laptop together with a php development environment (I will be using NetBeans).

Target Audience : PHP developers new to the Joomla framework or want to understand how to use it better.
